Continuing the discussion on how do you take control of your life, when there is so much stress and negativity all around, Part 2 wraps up the 10 keys to positive thinking that will permit you to take control of your life regardless of your environment.

6. Stop Making Assumptions
Do you sometimes assume that you know what others are thinking about you – as in you can hear in your mind all those negative things they are thinking about you? It is normal to be afraid of not being liked or accepted and fear often causes people to make up their own stories in their mind. However, your fears are usually not reality. If you are afraid that a friend or family member's bad mood is due to something you did, or that your co-workers are secretly gossiping about you behind your back, just ask them. Don't waste time worrying that you did something wrong unless you really did or unless you have proof that there is something to worry about.
7. Squash the "ANTs"
Dr. Daniel Amen talks about "ANTs" - Automatic Negative Thoughts - in his book, "Change Your Brain, Change Your Life." These are those negative thoughts that are usually reactionary, for example, "Those people are laughing, they must be talking about me," or "The boss wants to see me? It must be bad!" When you notice these thoughts, realize that they are nothing more than ANTs and squash them!
8. Avoid Using Absolutes
Do you find yourself saying things like, "You're ALWAYS late!" or criticizing, "You NEVER call me!"? Thinking and speaking in absolutes like 'always' and 'never' makes the situation seem worse than it is, and programs your brain into believing that certain people are incapable of delivering – and that is just not true! Remember people can rise to the occasion when you believe in them and that is also true in your and my case.
9. Increase Your Social Activity
By increasing social activity, you decrease loneliness. Surround yourself with healthy, happy people, and their positive energy will affect you in a positive way! It is okay to enjoy your own company and want to be alone; there is nothing wrong in seeking and enjoying solitude, but if you feel lonely, isolated, left-out and unhappy then you need to investigate your choices.
10. Help Someone Else
When you help someone else you feel good – simple as that. Science can actually offer an explanation for that, but the reason is not necessary…just do it – feel good! You can volunteer your time, your money or your resources. The more positive energy you put out into the world, the more you will receive in return.
